Easy Money for Teens - Have A Garage Sale
A garage sale is an opportunity for you to get rid of all those things that you don’t need anymore. There are also those that are moving from their current home and are looking to sell off all the small and sundry stuff that they don’t want to take with them. Whatever be the reason for the sale, if you are keen on your garage sale being a success, you need a plan and a little knowledge of how these things work.
Not many realize that like any other business venture, setting up a garage sale is an affair involving various well-structured steps. Outlines here is a general guideline on how to successfully to conduct a garage sale.
The first thing you will need to do is to clearly decide on what you will be selling and mark them neatly. You don’t want to be regretting selling that old vase that could have found use in your living room. Conversely, you also don’t want any item that you wanted to sell to be forgotten in a corner of the room only to be remembered later.
Once you have formed a neat list of everything you are going to have on your garage sale, you have fully decided you will be selling them! This is important. There won’t be any backtracking on your part. No ‘ah, I don’t think I should be selling that’. Once your list is carved in stone, categorize them unambiguously. Now, get your entire inventory out and evaluate each one. Unclean things need to be cleaned and torn or broken things glued, if possible, to make them more presentable.
Now is when you review your list once more and decide on the pricing. I would suggest going with your instincts on this, but to take care not to price your items so high that they won’t sell. Also, don’t be rigid at all with your pricing. If anyone wants to buy in bulk, you’ve got to have discounts for them. Your main aim will be to sell each item on the list. If that requires bringing the price down, so be it.
Next, choose where you are going to have the sale and get the chairs, tables and other things that are going to be necessary for the sale. You will need to visualize how the actual sale will be and decide on where each item is going to be placed. This will make your job easier. You might also want to prepare huge boards that will be placed in front of each category of items so your prospective buyers can find what they want easily. Once you’ve got everything ready, decide on a specific day for the sale and advertise your sale. Probably the best way to advertise is to put an ad in the local newspaper on the day of the sale. Flyers work well too. Make sure your garage sale gets in the face of every person passing by. Use large bright signs that can be seen from a block away. You’ll be surprised by the number of curious passers-by that will stop to take a look.
If you have everything well, you have nothing to be anxious about. When the buyers arrive, just enjoy yourself. Talk to everyone, make them feel at home and let them know what you have. Of course, they will haggle over the prices. But if you have your pricing strategy ready, you will know exactly how low you can go.
